8:55 – 9:45 AMNavigating Workplace Accommodations: This session will explore the significant legal changes regarding workplace accommodations under the ADA, Title VII, and the PWFA. It will analyze the circumstances under which those laws require accommodation, the information that employers can (and cannot) request, and guidelines for employer communication and decision-making. It will use hypothetical fact patterns and examples from real-life cases to explain key concepts and address timely issues such as accommodations involving leave and remote work requests, other potentially tricky requests. Presented by: Jeremy V. 9:45 – 10:45 AMInternal Investigations: Best Practices & Key Issues: Conducting an effective internal investigation is more vital than ever to ensuring an appropriate response to governmental inquiries and allegations of misconduct. This session will use real-life fact patterns and examples to explore the critical steps in the investigation process, from identifying the investigation team to gathering evidence to handling confidentiality and employee rights. Attendees will walk away with an understanding of when an internal investigation is needed and how to identify and address related challenges. Presented by: Heidi R. Freese, Esq. and Barbara A. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PMStaying Ahead of the Curve: 2024 Election, Supreme Court Cases, and Key Employment Laws and Regulations: In this session, current events and recent legal decisions and how they are shaping the future of employment law will be discussed. Speakers will cover: The 2024 Presidential election and its potential impact on labor and employment policies. Supreme Court cases like Chevron U.S.A., Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, and Muldrow v. City of St. Louis. Emerging trends in state-by-state employment laws. The recently struck down FTC rule affecting non-compete agreements, updates on tip regulations, and changes to overtime rules.
