Tucker Arensberg Welcomes Zakarij “Zak” Thomas as Shareholder in Bankruptcy & Restructuring and Real Estate Practices

PITTSBURGH, February 16,2026 – Tucker Arensberg, P.C., one of Pittsburgh’s leading law firms, is pleased to announce that Zakarij “Zak” Thomas has joined the firm as a Shareholder. Zak brings more than 20 years of experience advising financial institutions, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy, restructuring, and complex real estate transactions.

Zak focuses his practice on bankruptcy, restructuring, workouts, and creditors’ rights, guiding clients through distressed situations, intercreditor negotiations, debt sales, and bankruptcy litigation. In addition to his restructuring practice, he   represents real estate developers, owners, and lenders in acquisitions, financing, and complex transactions, including those involving community development, affordable housing, tax credit structures, and public-private partnerships.

Before returning to private practice, Zak served as a Senior Program Officer with one of the nation’s largest Community Development Financial Institutions, originating, underwriting, and servicing real estate loans while providing technical assistance to developers and nonprofit organizations. This experience gives him a rare perspective on how lenders, developers, and capital partners evaluate risk and opportunity, particularly in transitional or distressed projects.

Zak earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and his B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before several federal courts, including the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits and the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania and the Eastern District of Michigan.

Active in community development and nonprofit leadership throughout Western Pennsylvania, Zak is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, a prior member of the Federal Reserve Bank’s Business Advisory Council for Southwestern Pennsylvania, and has served on numerous non-profit boards, including the Parkinson Foundation of Western PA, and is actively involved with the Urban Land Institute.
